Tiger scoops top award

14 April 2012

Tiger Woods has been named US Tour golfer of the year for the fifth successive time, despite failing to capture a Major for the first time since 1998.

Nor did Woods finish as No1 prize-money winner of 2004 yet he polled more votes from fellow Tour members than Fiji's Vijay Singh, who finished top of the list.

But Woods said: "I would have been surprised if I had not won the award. I won five times on Tour this year, more than anyone else."

It is the sixth time out of seven full seasons on the US Tour that the 27-year-old has scooped the Jack Nicklaus trophy.

Singh produced top-six finishes in his last eight PGA Tour starts, including two wins, to end Tiger's four-year reign as the tour's leading money winner.
