Alessia Russo scored winner as Arsenal beat Tottenham in front of a sellout crowd of over 60,000 at Emirates Stadium.

The result keep Arsenal three points behind WSL leaders Manchester City and level with Chelsea, who play Leicester later on Sunday.

The official attendance of 60,050 is the second-highest in WSL history, just short of the record 60,160 at the Emirates for Arsenal's win over Manchester United in February.

Arsenal dominated throughout and Russo scored the winner early in the second half when she thumped home from close range after being teed up by Beth Mead.

Tottenham stay sixth as their winless run extends to four games.

Russo said: “I love playing here. The fans, the whole atmosphere is incredible and us as players can feel them from the first minute to the last.

“Spurs are a top side and they play some really good football. We knew it was going to be tough and off the back of the international break we had to get to work quickly. We wanted to come out and put a performance everyone was proud of especially here at the Emirates.”

Asked whether he is confident Arsenal can chase down the WSL leaders, Gunners manager Jonas Eidevall: “I’m very confident in this team’s ability that we can beat any team if we hit our levels of performance.”
