Real held to a draw

14 April 2012

Real Betis earned themselves a valuable point in their fight for survival and did leaders Valencia a big favour by holding Real Madrid - and David Beckham - to a 1-1 draw last night.

Madrid needed Ronaldo's 50th goal for the club to salvage a point, with the Brazilian clipping home from a tight angle to the left of goal in the 59th minute.

Betis had taken the lead after 33 minutes when Joaquin volleyed home from 10 yards.

The result means that Madrid failed in their mission to go top of the Primera Liga, with Valencia continuing to lead the way with a one-point advantage over last season's champions following their 0-0 draw at Valladolid yesterday.

Behind Valencia and Madrid - in third place - are Deportivo La Coruna whose first win of the year was a convincing 4-1 victory over Real Zaragoza.
