McManaman kept waiting by Sven

Ken Dyer13 April 2012

With two days to go before the World Cup tie against Greece, the only problem for coach Sven-Goran Eriksson remains who plays on the left side of England's midfield.

Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman is expected to recover from a shoulder injury and captain David Beckham, Paul Scholes and Steven Gerrard are all certain to be fit after minor knocks, enabling Eriksson to start the game with his first choice line-up.

Steve McManaman, who missed the 4-0 friendly victory over Mexico because of club commitments with Real Madrid, is the favourite to displace Liverpool's Emile Heskey.

Eriksson has, however, been alternating between Heskey and McManaman during the squad's build-up in La Manga and will see how both players perform during today's final training sessions before they fly to Athens to begin their final preparations.

Arsenal pair Ashley Cole and Martin Keown will join Seaman in the England team to play the Greeks, with Rio Ferdinand, of Leeds, and Manchester United's Phil Neville completing the back line.

Liverpool pair Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler will play up front, with Teddy Sheringham named as one of the five allowed substitutes along with Nigel Martyn, Gareth Southgate, Nicky Butt and either McManaman or Heskey.
