Manuel Pellegrini has revealed West Ham offered Liverpool’s Uefa Super Cup hero Adrian an improved contract in a bid to keep him at the London Stadium.

Adrian left West Ham on a free transfer over the summer in search of a No.1 spot after being back-up to Lukasz Fabianski last season.

The Spaniard struggled to find a club, but he received a late offer from Liverpool and an injury to Alisson has thrust him into the spotlight at Anfield.

Adrian was the hero against Chelsea on Wednesday when he saved Tammy Abraham's decisive penalty in the shootout as Liverpool lifted the Super Cup.

Pellegrini has confirmed West Ham wanted Adrian to stay but the 32-year-old rejected a new deal.

“We offered Adrian to stay here to improve his contract,” said Pellegrini. They did not find an arrangement.

"It is difficult for me to talk about something I was not involved in. The different things why he did not continue here that you must ask him, his agent or the sporting director.

"I am happy for him. He was always a player who was positive and committed to this club. He played a lot of years here and he is a very good goalkeeper.

"For different reasons he could not find an arrangement to continue here, but we wanted him here because he is a good goalkeeper.
