A woman charged with stalking and threatening to kill Catherine Zeta-Jones sent a letter to her apologising for any " distress" she had caused, a court heard today.

Dawnette Knight wrote that she was a "confused young woman", obsessed with the Oscar-winning actress's husband Michael Douglas.

"I want to apologise for any distress I have caused you and your families," wrote Knight, 31.

"It would be a wonderful good deed if you would all forgive me so that I can finish my studies in child psychology."

The letter was released by her lawyer. Knight is in custody pending a hearing in Los Angeles. She faces 24 charges, including making criminal threats and stalking.
