Drake nearly hit by phone thrown at him on stage amid rising phenomenon

Drake is the latest performer to have fallen victim to overzealous fans throwing items on stage as he narrowly avoided being hit by a phone mid-performance.

The Canadian rapper kicked off his It’s All A Blur Tour with 21 Savage at the United Center in Chicago on Thursday, July 6, to great excitement.

And that excitement seemed to bubble over when a fan threw their phone at the rapper as he performed a rendition of Ginuwine’s song Anxious on stage.

In a video posted on TikTok, the Hotline Bling hitmaker is seen attempting to catch the device, but misses and watches it fall to the ground.

Fortunately, the rapper was unharmed and continued performing the track without fuss.

The music star’s near miss comes amid a spate of fans throwing objects at artists on stage in recent weeks, leading to questions around concert etiquette.

Recently, a fan threw a bag containing their mother’s ashes on stage at a Pink concert at her second headline show at London’s BST Hyde Park. The night prior she had been handed a large wheel of cheese while on stage.

Then, across the pond, Bebe Rexha was left with a black eye and several stitches after a man threw a mobile phone at her face during her performance at The Rooftop at Pier 17 in New York.

In another incident, country singer Kelsea Ballerini also had to stop mid-performance after a concertgoer threw an unknown item at her face.

Meanwhile, Lil Nas X appeared amused when someone threw a sex toy onstage during his gig in Sweden on Saturday.

However, this isn’t a new phenomenon as Harry Styles fell victim to less than stellar concertgoer etiquette in 2022 when fans threw Skittles at him.

At the time, the sweet brand responded to the news, saying: “Didn’t think I needed to say this: Please don’t throw Skittles.”
