Idris Elba looked relaxed as he walked the carpet at the UK premiere of his directorial debut film Yardie.

The Luther actor opted for a dressed-down look as he rocked up to the BFI Southbank on Tuesday to promote his film Yardie, walking hand-in-hand with fiancé Sabrina Dhowre.

The actor refused to give anything away in regards to recent speculation that he could be the next James Bond, although confessed he doesn’t think it will happen.

He told ITV London: “I’ve not teased anybody. I tweeted my name – I did play a Bond remix this weekend.

“It’s such an honour to have a rumour like that surrounding you, you might as well have a laugh about it. I don’t think I’ll ever be Bond.”

Elba’s first foray into directing, which premiered at Sundance earlier this year, was filmed in London and follows the story of a young Jamaican man who comes to London still devastated by personal tragedy.

The actor turned the 1992 novel of the same name into something slightly different for his adaptation as the film focuses on two paths Dee has at his disposal, charting his journey down either the right one or the wrong one.

Of walking the yellow carpet, Elba said: “It’s very interesting actually, I’ve dressed down because I’m more relaxed. It’s a very special feeling, we’re here in London.

“It’s good to see everyone. I’m nervous but I’m excited.”
