Grammy winners 2016: Taylor Swift wins Album of the Year, Kendrick Lamar wins Best Rap Album and Ed Sheeran picks up first gong

The great and good of the music world have been honoured at the 58th Grammy Awards.

US pop superstar Taylor Swift scooped three gongs out of her 11 nominations while Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber picked up their first ever Grammy awards at the annual bash at Los Angeles' Staples Centre.

Swift - who kicked off the ceremony with a performance of Out of the Woods - took home the coveted Album of the Year award for 1989.

She also picked up Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Music Video for Bad Blood during the show's pre-telecast

Highlights from the Grammys 2016

British singer Sheeran was honoured with Song of the Year for Thinking Out Loud before going on to take Best Pop Solo Performance.

Kendrick Lamar led the pack with five awards including Best Rap Album and received a standing ovation after performing a medley of his hits Alright and The Blacker the Berry.

Record of the Year went to Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars for Uptown Funk, Meghan Trainor won Best New Artist while Bieber - who performed an acoustic rendition of Love Yourself - scooped Best Dance Recording for his hit Where Are Ü Now with Skrillex and Diplo.

Hosted by LL Cool J for the fifth consecutive year, the ceremony also saw more than three hours worth of performances from Adele, Ellie Goulding, Lionel Richie, James Bay, Meghan Trainor and Hollywood Vampires.

Lady Gaga paid tribute to David Bowie while Stevie Wonder joined a capella group Pentatonix to sing That's the Way of the World in honour of Earth, Wind & Fire singer Maurice White. Glenn Frey was also paid tribute to by members of the Eagles and Jackson Browne who sang Take It Easy.
