Cheryl has shared a cryptic post, appearing to hint at a release date for new music after missing her original March deadline.

The former Girls Aloud singer told fans to expect a follow up to Love Made Me Do It last month, but didn’t give a specific date.

Keeping fans up-to-date, she posted a picture of herself on Instagram and teased a potential May release.

She captioned the shot: “When she says March-ish but might have meant May… (if you know you know).”

Cheryl made her musical return in November 2018 after a four year hiatus. She vowed to quit if Love Made Me Do It flopped in the charts.

She told the Guardian Guide: “If it goes in at 80, it’s time for me to move on with my life. I'm not going to jump around working hard and spending time away from my son for that.”

The comeback single entered higher than 80, but only peaked at number 19 and slid out of Spotify’s top 200 two days after its release.

Her performance on The X Factor, which saw her gyrating against a bevy of male backing dancers, writhing on the floor and licking her hand, was branded “painful” by critics.

Cheryl hit back at the “relentless abuse” telling fans she “loved” her performance.

“This level of relentless abuse should not be tolerated in any walk of life,” she tweeted. “From my appearance, my body size and shape to my performance and even dragging innocent people into this like they did to Nile Rodgers simply for a clickbait headline is totally uncalled for. It also gives the trolls a bigger voice and platform.”

“Ps…I did watch my performance back and I LOVED IT!”

Cheryl recently celebrated the second birthday of her son Bear who she shares with ex-boyfriend Liam Payne.
