Police are investigating the attempted murder of a woman who is fighting for her life in hospital after falling from a fifth-floor window in Southend.

A 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after the woman plunged from a window at a block of flats around 2am on Thursday.

The woman, aged in her 40s, has been left with life-threatening injuries and was rushed to hospital.

An Essex Police statement said: "A woman is being treated for life-threatening injuries after it was reported she fell from the 5th floor window of an address on Jones Close, Southend at 2am.

"A man has been been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Anyone with info is asked to call 101 or Crimestoppers.
