A man who targeted gay men in London with a string of burglaries has been jailed for eleven years and six months.

Reda Zahri, of Haverstock Road, Camden, admitted three counts of burglary, one of false imprisonment and one count of attempting to commit robbery in relation to three different men.

Police warned it was “plausible” there could be more victims.

Southwark Crown Court heard how the 22-year-old struck up conversations with gay men to gain their trust before targeting them for their belongings.

He often engaged in sexual activity with them, before stealing items, with the victim frequently being unaware, and then leaving.

On one occasion he stole more than £25,000-worth of possessions from a victim using a suitcase.

He was caught after one victim he had met in Camden managed to get his Instagram handle and showed it to police.

When he was arrested after an incident in Camden on May 12, 2022, he initially refused to answer police questions.

He also claimed to be 17, making him a minor but police managed to find a link to Germany, where Zahri had been before coming to the UK, which proved this was not the case.

Met Detective Constable Nigel Pacquette said: “All three of Zahri’s victims were gay men, making clear that he was preying on members of the gay community.

“I also hope this sends out a strong message that the police will investigate anyone and everyone who has been a victim of crime.

“It is entirely plausible that Zahri targeted other people who, for whatever reason, have not had the confidence to come forward and report this.

“I would urge you to please make contact with police so we can investigate any allegations thoroughly.”
