The new series of The X Factor is fast approaching, as this year’s batch of wannabe superstars gear up to face the stellar panel of returning judges.

It might seem like only yesterday that Louisa Johnson belted her way to victory with her cover of Forever Young, but the 2016 series of the show will hit our screens in just a few weeks.

While ITV decided to shake things up last year by bringing in some fresh blood, this year is all about revisiting the past with some old faces and reverted formats.

Here’s what we know so far about the 2016 series of The X Factor.

When is it on?

Although ITV are yet to announce an exact air date, The X Factor is expected to return to our screens at the end of August.

Host Dermot O’Leary recently told This Morning viewers that the first episode will air on Saturday August 27.

Who’s on the judging panel?

It’s a retro year for The X Factor, with some favourite faces from the past making a big return.

While Simon Cowell remains as head judge, he will be joined by Louis Walsh, who took a break last year.

Also returning are former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger and fan favourite Sharon Osbourne.

Who is presenting?

Much to the delight of X Factor fans, Dermot O’Leary is back as host this year, after announcing his departure from the show back in 2015.

Caroline Flack and Olly Murs stepped into replace him last year, but weren’t asked back for series 13.

What can we expect?

ITV are keeping most details tightly under wraps, but they have announced that there will be one or two format changes.

Most importantly, the room auditions are being brought back after years of first auditions in front of a huge arena crowd.
