Zola 'greatest ever Chelsea player'

13 April 2012

Chelsea fans have nominated Gianfranco Zola as the greatest player in the club's history by an overwhelming majority.

The Italian forward picked up more than 60 per cent of the 15,000 votes cast in a poll on the club's website which put him well clear of Peter Osgood.

Former captain Dennis Wise came in third ahead of prolific England goalscorer Jimmy Greaves and Kerry Dixon.

Ruud Gullit, Peter Bonetti and Charlie Cooke were also prominent but there was no place in the top 10 for striker Bobby Tambling, who scored 164 goals in 298 league games for the club.
