Aston Villa defender Luke Young has seen a specialist to try and solve his ongoing knee problem.

Young has been dogged by injury setbacks this season with the knee issue following hip and ankle troubles. He has been side-lined since the 3-0 defeat at Liverpool in early December.

Villa manager Gerard Houllier said: "Luke saw a specialist in London, so it will depend what the results are. He does training and he doesn't feel anything and then at training the following day he feels something. Obviously we need to sort that out."

Houllier added: "I played him regularly every game until the Liverpool game and then after that he got injured and never came back."

Houllier is confident winger Stewart Downing will be available for Saturday's home clash with Fulham.

Downing suffered a knock to the shin during the mid-week setback against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Houllier said: "Stewart should be okay for Fulham. It was just a kick on the side of his shin."
