Wimbledon 2016 Order Of Play Sunday July 3: Serena Williams returns to Centre Court on 'People's Sunday'

Rain interruptions again blighted Wimbledon on Saturday as the tournament's match backlog kept growing.

Defending men's champion Novak Djokovic bowed out after a fragmented Court One battle with Sam Querrey, with the players on and off the court during the afternoon.

Djokovic had trailed Querrey 7-6 (8/6) 6-1 overnight and looked to have all the momentum on their lunchtime return before further wet weather stopped the Serbian in his tracks. Querrey eventually took the match in four sets, clinching victory in a second tie-break.

Djokovic played down the rain factor, but admitted it had been a nuisance.

He said: "It's the same for both of us. It's obvious that not just us, but all the people who were coming to watch us play, are frustrated because of so many delays."

A sustained period of play on all courts from around 4.45pm came as a relief, after the court covers had been repeatedly unfurled and then drawn back, and it lasted deep into the evening.

The tournament was 78 matches behind schedule at the end of a rain-disrupted Friday programme, and all unfinished third-round ties from Saturday were set to shift to Sunday, after the announcement there would be play on a day usually set aside for rest and court repairs.

A number of third-round matches were already due to take place on the added day, including Serena Williams' clash with Annika Beck which was left off Saturday's order of play.

Several doubles and junior matches were scratched from Saturday's programme during the afternoon, setting up a busy People's Sunday.
