Wiltord in Euro 2004 fitness bid

Sylvain Wiltord: looks set to miss Euro 2004

Sylvain Wiltord is fighting a losing battle to be fit to play for France in Portugal at the European Championships next month.

Wiltord, who looks to have played his last game for Arsenal, has been suffering since Christmas with an ankle injury.

He has started only eight Premiership games.

The striker will be given as long as possible to prove his fitness for Euro 2004 but if he fails to play against Leicester on Saturday he will have only three friendly games for France - against Brazil, Andorra and Ukraine - to demonstrate his readiness.

New German champions Werder Bremen are said to be interested in Wiltord, who will be available on a free transfer when his contract expires on 30 June.
