Wenger slams 'naive' Arsenal

13 April 2012

Arsene Wenger was naturally very disappointed with the 6-1 thumping at Old Trafford.

A Dwight Yorke hat-trick along with goals from Roy Keane, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Teddy Sheringham inspired Man Utd to victory.

Arsenal, who scored a fine consolation through Thierry Henry, were in total disarray throughout.

Wenger admitted his team were "naive at the back" and said: "Everything went wrong.

"In the first half we gave too much space away and too much room individually to players.

"The first and second goals were jokes. We were like a youth team. Defensively what we did is really poor - to be 5-1 down in the first half was down to a poor defensive performance."

"We looked not very good at the back and the game was destroyed in three or four occasions when we looked very naive.

"We gave too much space and room to United, too much freedom.

"It was quite strange because we looked dangerous going forward, but vulnerable defensively.

"The way we conceded the goals meant we could not get anything out of the game.

"We had no leader at the back and we were too inexperienced."

Wenger was unconcerned by Ferguson's claims that Arsenal's title chances were over and he said: "We were finished before the game."
