We need another gear - McGhee

Millwall boss Mark McGhee tipped Birmingham as promotion candidates after the Lions' 4-0 defeat at St Andrews.  

And he admitted that his team had to step up a gear.

McGhee said: "There are a lot of teams in the First Division better than we played last season in winning the Second Division title.

"Last season we never played against a side that stopped us playing as Birmingham did. They exploited the situation to their advantage and it is obvious that we have to find another gear."

He added: "I know my players can perform better. They closed us down and prevented us from playing. It is obvious that they are a very good side and promotion candidates."
