Watford reject Blades Helguson bid

14 April 2012

Watford have rejected a £1million-plus bid from Sheffield United for top scorer Heidar Helguson.

Only 24 hours after turning down an offer from Sunderland, the Hornets have now rebuffed an enquiry from their Championship rivals.

Vicarage Road boss Adrian Boothroyd is keen to keep Helguson - whose contract expires next summer - and is to offer the Icelandic striker a new, improved contract.

But Watford might find it difficult to resist another bid for the 20-goal forward.

Sheffield United vice chairman Terry Robinson had confirmed their interest in Helguson. He told the club's official website, www.sufc.co.uk: "We can confirm that there have been negotiations but don't wish to make further comment on the matter."
