Warnock rips into feuding Blades

Disunited: Davis (left) confronted Akinbiyi while allegedly holding a razor

Furious Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock has told disgraced defender Claude Davis and striker Ade Akinbiyi that they had "shamed and embarrassed the club".

In addition to his amazing training-ground outburst, Warnock called the players together after Sportsmail's revelations that Davis allegedly had a cut-throat razor in his hand as a row between the pair got out of control last Monday.

The Bramall Lane boss, who was not aware of the incident until being contacted by the Daily Mail on Thursday, told the squad that they "were in enough trouble in the Premiership without all this" and demanded to know who had leaked the story.

Sources at the club admitted they were "amazed" that Warnock seemed more intent on finding out who leaked rather than taking action against Davis.

One insider, who asked not to be named, told Sportsmail: "He may as well have told us it's OK to bring in guns and knives to training - just as long as it doesn't get into the press."

Incredibly, senior United officials have tried to brush the incident under the carpet after claiming to have conducted an internal investigation.

Managing director Terry Robinson said: "Straight down the line, we've put out a statement and that's all we're saying. See you." He then hung up.

It read: "Following the allegations in a national newspaper on Friday morning concerning an alleged flare-up between Claude Davis and Ade Akinbiyi, Sheffield United has concluded its investigation.

"The two players did have a difference of opinion, the sort which occurs often in dressing rooms throughout the land. Contrary to reports, no razors or knives were involved, the pair have shaken hands and the disagreement has been resolved."

Although Davis did not use the razor in the row, many of his team-mates remain shocked that he had it in his hand as the dispute was escalating.

The feud began last Saturday after Davis was sent off at Everton. Having served his one-game ban in midweek, the defender is in the squad to face Chelsea on Saturday afternoon, as is Akinbiyi.
