Warne back with a double

13 April 2012

Shane Warne today bowled the first ball of his comeback from a 12-month doping ban. He finished with two for 32 in 16 overs for Victoria 2nd XI against Queensland in Melbourne.

Unlike his first ball in an Ashes Test, which spun across Mike Gatting to clip the off stump bail at Old Trafford in 1993, Warne's first comeback delivery slid down the leg side, beating batsman and wicketkeeper.

But the 34-year-old wrist spinner hit back to claim two wickets before Queensland reached the close on 217 for four in reply to Victoria's 379 for five declared. One day of the game remains.

Warne has two matches for Victoria's first team to impress selectors before the Australian squad for the Sri Lanka tour is announced on 20 February.
