Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk saluted his ‘incredible’ teammates after they secured the club’s first league title in 30 years.

Victory for Chelsea over Manchester City on Thursday finally saw Jurgen Klopp’s side crowned Premier League champions, after the coronavirus-led shutdown of the competition had delayed their inevitable achievement.

Liverpool have won the title with seven games remaining, having already amassed a whopping 86 points.

Their consistency has set new standards in England’s top-flight, having lost just once in the league and winning 28 of the 31 matches they have played thus far.

Van Dijk, reacting to their achievement, was full of pride and emotion.

Van Dyke told BT Sport: "It's unbelievable, what a season. We've been incredible. To be part of this group of players and part of this journey is incredible and I am very proud to be able to call myself a Premier League winner.

"Of course I watched the (Chelsea) game. I don't watch too many games but the game felt like it was taking ages and never ended. When the free-kick went in from Kevin (De Bruyne) - what an incredible goal by the way - I was getting nervous, and I haven't been nervous in a while.

"But after that it was just celebration time and we are all proud of each other. I can't really describe the feeling to be honest.

"In the league this year we have taken it to another level. We have been so consistent and played so well."
