Van Basten to quit as Holland boss after Euro 2008

Marco van Basten will step down as head coach of Holland after Euro 2008. The Dutchman, 43, has been recently linked with Chelsea and Ajax.

He began his reign as Holland coach in July 2004 but lost popularity after deeming Edgar Davids and Clarence Seedorf too old. Others — such as Ruud van Nistelrooy and Mark van Bommel — fell out with him and refused to play for their country.

At Germany 2006, his team lost 1-0 against Portugal in the last 16.
