Utd on verge of Heinze deal

Manchester Untied are on the verge of completing the £6million transfer of Argentine defender Gabriel Heinze.

Sir Alex Ferguson has had an offer for the 26-year-old accepted by French club Paris St-Germain and United have only to settle personal terms.

If the deal goes through as expected in the next two weeks, it will mean Ferguson has spent around £13m already this summer to reinforce his squad as he attempts to win the Premiership back from Arsenal.

Earlier this week, United spent £7m on Alan Smith in a controversial move from Leeds. But it was in defence that United were found wanting last season following the suspension of Rio Ferdinand after he received an eight-month ban for missing a drugs test.

Heinze, one of the most impressive defenders in the French League, was signed from Real Valladolid three years ago and was linked with Chelsea last season.
