United launch last-ditch Ronaldinho bid

13 April 2012

Manchester United were today making a final attempt to sign Brazilian midfielder Ronaldinho from French club Paris St Germain.

It is understood that United have decided they want the issue settled one way or the other by the end of the day. If their efforts fail then they will accept defeat and turn their attention elsewhere.

The Premiership champions have been linked with a move for Damien Duff if the Blackburn winger decides against Chelsea, but Ronaldinho remains Sir Alex Ferguson's first choice.

Barcelona are their main rivals, having bid £21million, more than United's offer, but remarks by PSG chairman Francis Graille claiming the English side have breached FIFA regulations - by negotiating directly with the player - suggest the Brazilian would prefer Old Trafford to the Nou Camp.

United have dismissed Graille's latest outburst, viewing it as merely another attempt by the PSG president to increase the fee for his club.

Meanwhile, Kleberson, who plays alongside Ronaldinho in midfield for Brazil, was today undergoing a medical in Manchester with terms and a transfer fee agreed. If the tests are satisfactory United will first seek a work permit for the player before announcing the signing - and that could take at least a week.
