Tim Bresnan's tougher after facing up to home horror show

Tim Bresnan had a nightmare the last time he played for England at his home ground but says he has learned from the experience as he prepares to return there tomorrow.

The Yorkshire seamer features in the opening match of the NatWest Series against West Indies with the memory of another one-day clash at Headingley three years ago still fresh. Sri Lanka's Sanath Jayasuriya battered England for 152 in the final instalment of a fivematch series the hosts lost 5-0.

There was also a brutal hundred for Jayasuriya's fellow left-hander Upul Tharanga as Sri Lanka raced past what had all too briefly appeared a formidable total of 321 for seven, in only 37.3 overs.Bresnan said: "I was blown away by it. I took a lot away from that series, worked on bowling at lefthanders and took a lot of heart out of the fact that it wasn't just me . . . Jayasuriya took a lot of bowlers down. He pretty much got a piece of everyone.

"I believe I'm ready now - and I'd like to do my talking on the pitch."

Bresnan took three wickets in the Second Test against West Indies as the hosts claimed a 2-0 series win.

Team-mate Graham Swann believes those two displays set England up perfectly for the Ashes.

The off-spinner said: "The best thing about the two Tests is that we set out to win them and we did that so that thought will be in the back of our heads when we get back into the five-day stuff."
