Tha talk in boxing

The American verdict on Harrison sounds familiar

Audley Harrison regularly bleats that the British media is too negative about his progress in the professional game and that he receives more positive acclaim across the pond.
The latest issue of Ring magazine, America's boxing bible, honours the Olympic gold medallist with a cover picture.
Inside, however, Harrison is ranked with Dominick Guinn and Joe Mesi under a feature headlined "Who Will Replace Lewis, Tyson and Holyfield?" Teddy Atlas, one of America's most respected trainers, says this of Harrison: "He hasn't fought anyone at all. You can't move forward if all you're fighting is set-up types. After a while, you start to stagnate." Haven't we heard that somewhere before?

Holyfield forgives Tyson

If Audley Harrison tends to harbour grudges against those he perceives as crossing him, Evander Holyfield has perfected the act of forgiveness.
Visiting a home for 3,000 children run by American Christian evangelist A K Paul in the Indian city of Hyderabad, the four-time world heavyweight champion reveals he has forgiven Mike Tyson for biting a chunk out of his ear during their fight in Las Vegas nearly seven years ago.
And Holyfield, a committed Christian, said he could even forgive terrorist leader Osama bin Laden for the September 11 attacks on New York and Washington.

Mundine blinded by stars

Asking for forgiveness is Australia's WBA supermiddleweight champion Anthony Mundine following a surprise visit to his Sydney gym by acclaimed trainer Angelo Dundee and Oscar winner Russell Crowe.
Mundine was sparring when he noticed Dundee, who is helping Crowe prepare for his role as former heavyweight champion James J Braddock in the movie Cinderella Man.
Mundine said: "I felt like an egg. Here is one of the greatest actors of all time taking time out of his busy schedule to bring a boxing legend to meet me and I ignore him. I am embarrassed."

Scrap rap for Iron Mike

Seeking understanding - if not forgiveness - from a New York court next week will be Mike Tyson.
The convicted rapist and road rager faces a year back behind bars if he is found guilty of assaulting two men who asked for his autograph outside a Brooklyn hotel in June.
Jackie Rowe, Tyson's friend and business manager, will be a star witness for the defence. She claims the men "stank of liquor" and incited the incident by saying, "we got guns, you only got fists". If they had guns, they didn't use them. But Tyson did use his fists. Guess who came off worse.

Hide discovers his D-day

Seeking a fair hearing from the British Boxing Board of Control next month will be Herbie Hide. Talk last week revealed how the former WBO world heavyweight titleholder had been fined £750, plus £130 costs, after admitting carrying a 10-inch kitchen knife in a public place. Now the Board are to hold an inquiry into the matter on 4 February.
