Taricco faces Hoddle wrath

Adrian Curtis13 April 2012

Mauricio Taricco faces a dressing down today from Glenn Hoddle after his second red card in a week.

The Tottenham defender, who was sent off at Manchester United last week, ignored a warning from his manager not to be drawn into a feud with Graeme Le Saux in last night's Premiership game at Stamford Bridge and was dismissed for a late lunge on the Chelsea defender.

Both clubs had warned their players to cool down after Sunday's illtempered FA Cup quarter-final when Le Saux was red-carded for a tackle on the Argentine.

But, as Chelsea dished out their second 4-0 humiliation of Spurs in four days, this proved too much for Taricco.

Now he faces a possible eight-match ban from the Football Association for his misdemeanours and a misconduct charge.

Hoddle said: "I think it is unlikely that we will appeal against the red card. It was a reckless challenge and didn't need to be made in that area of the pitch.

"But Mauricio has said he didn't go over the top of the ball and it wasn't malicious. The ref's possibly made his decision because of the reaction of the crowd and the Chelsea players."
