Sussex head for first win

Despite Niall O'Brien reaching 67, Kent were all out 33 runs short of Worcestershire's first-innings total at New Road today. O'Brien was caught and bowled by Kabir Ali and Kent fell away as they lost their remaining three wickets for just 29 runs. In the second innings Worcestershire's Stephen Moore (4) was trapped lbw.

Middlesex

Craig Spearman was not out on a remarkable 304 as Gloucestershire overtook Middlesex's first-innings total.
Christopher Taylor also piled on the agony for the visitors as he reached his century before being caught by David Nash off a delivery from Christopher Peploe.

Sussex

Rain held up play for 35 minutes at Old Trafford this morning, but Lancashire must have been praying that the clouds had opened up for much longer.
The home side are in a desperate position having followed on against Division One champions Sussex. Still 34 runs adrift of the visitors' first-innings total, Lancashire are staring at defeat here.

Essex v Hampshire

Essex were heading for defeat on day three of their County Championship match against Hampshire at Chelmsford.
Shane Warne's side declined to enforce the follow-on after skittling Essex out for 158 yesterday and resumed the day on 81 for five.
But the visitors were dismissed for 154 in the morning session.
That set Essex an imposing 350 to win and they lost three early wickets as Billy Taylor dismissed openers Will Jefferson for 26 and Alastair Cook for 22 and Shaun Udal accounted for Andy Flower for a duck shortly afterwards.
