The Super Bowl has grown into a truly global phenomenon, but at its roots it is also a celebration of everything America.

As such, the job of singing the national anthem before kick-off is seen as a huge honour, with some of the biggest names in music having belted out the Star Spangled Banner in the moments before the biggest game in the sport.

Last year's anthem was sung by Pink, while previous singers include Billy Joel, Diana Ross, Alicia Keys and Beyonce.

This year's Super Bowl takes place on Sunday 3 February in Atlanta, with the New England Patriots taking on the Los Angeles Rams.

The Empress of Soul herself, Gladys Knight, will be picking up the microphone to belt out the famous tune at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of the Atlanta Falcons.

Knight, originally from Atlanta, Georgia, is a seven-time Grammy Award-winner, famous for hits such as ‘Midnight Train to Georgia’.
