Sky Sports have axed football panel show Sunday Supplement for next season after more than two decades on air.

The Sunday morning show, which features newspaper and, more recently, online sports reporters discussing the week's biggest footballing stories, began in 1999 as Hold the Back Page on a Friday night.

Sky has not ruled out a return for the show at a later stage but, due to a tighter schedule with more games to be shown next season, have cut the programme, which had been produced via video calls since the restart, from their offering.

A Sky spokesperson said: "The huge volume of live football since the restart and a condensed season that has already begun means we must look at how best to deploy our resources for the benefit of our customers."

The show's most recent permanent host was Jacqui Oatley, the first woman to hold the role, and was proceeded by former Sun journalist Neil Ashton.

Broadcasting great Jimmy Hill presented the show when it first moved to the Sunday slot, while Brian Woolnough, also of the Sun, hosted the programme, joined by three different journalists each week, from 2007 until his death in 2012.
