Stewart's Silverstone plan

Sir Jackie Stewart was today trying to secure the long-term future of Silverstone.

News that advertising giant Interpublic had paid £52million to give up their rights to the British Grand Prix could have a serious knock-on effect for the track, which is owned by the British Racing Drivers' Club.

BRDC president Stewart said: "For us, we have a very valuable tenant in Interpublic which we could not afford to throw away. They rent most of the site - we have no other major source of income."

Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone has taken control of all commercial rights to the British Grand Prix.
