Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge thinks club captain Steven Gerrard deserves to win the Premier League and will do his best to help him achieve it.
Brendan Rodgers’s side are two points clear of Chelsea at the top of the table and face a testing end to the season, which includes a visit to Stamford Bridge and a home game against third-placed Manchester City.
Gerrard, who has been at Anfield his entire career, has won every possible club honour with Liverpool, barring the Premier League.
And Sturridge, the club’s second topscorer behind Luis Suarez, thinks to win the League this season would be a fitting reward for Gerrard’s continued loyalty to the Liverpool.
“If we win it, Stevie really deserves it,” Sturridge said. “He should win the Premier League because of everything he has done for this club.
“Every player in this team will do their best to help him achieve that goal. He’s just unbelievable every day, a great leader.
“He lives and dies for this club, he’s been here his whole career and it’s just a pleasure to play with him.”
The England international added: “Stevie will always be a legend, not just for Liverpool, but to England as well. He will definitely go down in history as one of the best midfielders in the game, never mind just this club.”
Should Liverpool win this season, it will be their first top-flight title for 24 years. They travel to West Ham on Saturday, who all but secured their Premier League survival with a 2-1 victory over Sunderland on Monday.
