Six stadia get green light

12 April 2012

Six stadia in Serie A will be allowed to admit fans for matches, the government announced on Thursday.

A statement from the Interior Ministry revealed that the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, the Artemio Franchi in Siena, the Stadio Olimpico in Turin, the Renzo Barbera in Palermo, Sampdoria's Luigi Ferraris and Messina's San Filippo all meet the required safety standards.

The San Siro, which houses both Internazionale and AC Milan, was not included on that list, however.

All domestic and international matches were suspended last Friday following the death of a police officer, 38-year-old Filippo Raciti, after violent clashes during the Sicilian derby between Catania and Palermo.

FIGC commissioner Luca Pancalli on Wednesday gave the go-ahead for all football tournaments to resume in Italy, after the government had earlier announced a 13-article decree to combat football hooliganism in the country.

The key article was a ban on all spectators from those stadiums not considered to have met security standards.
