Schoolgirl Wie starts US Open bid

Michelle Wie, the 15-year-old Hawaiian schoolgirl, has entered qualifying for the US Open.

She will first play an 18-hole local qualifier May 13 at Turtle Bay on Oahu. She rose to prominence by becoming the youngest winner of a championship for adults, capturing the Women's Amateur Public Links title at age 13.
