Sadlier return gives Millwall a boost

Matt Hughes13 April 2012

Manager Mark McGhee has been boosted ahead of Millwall's First Division kick-off by the return to fitness of Richard Sadlier.

The Republic of Ireland striker has not played since injuring his hip in April but should be among the substitutes at home to Rotherham tomorrow.

McGhee said: "It's a massive boost for us. Richard's looked really sharp and hungry in training and it shouldn't take weeks and weeks to get him back to full fitness.

"He was disappointed not to make the World Cup, so to be picked for Ireland's friendly against Finland later this month is the icing on the cake for him."

But while Sadlier is back, Republic team-mate Steven Reid twisted his ankle in training.

McGhee said: "Steven is 99 per cent to be out tomorrow. That's obviously a blow in a small squad, but that happens and is something we can cope with."

Rotherham have not won at The Den since 1981, and failed to find the net in their previous five visits, but McGhee is expecting a physical clash.

He said: "We've played Rotherham a lot over the last two seasons and they're a strong side, so it will be a physical, aerial encounter. We can match their work-rate but have a bit more quality and are looking to play more football.

"In the past we've been guilty of knocking the ball into the channels, but want to keep possession and play from higher up the pitch. Then we can play balls in behind their defence."
