Rusedski up for another title tilt

Greg Rusedski is due to re-start his preparations for Wimbledon today at the Samsung Open in Nottingham.

The British No 2 had not planned to play competitively this week but entered the tournament following his second-round exit at the Stella Artois Championship courtesy of Mark Philippoussis last week.

Rusedski has been given a wild card for Nottingham and faces 18-year-old qualifier Todd Reid from Australia in the first round. The other British wild card entries at the tournament are Jamie Delgado and Arvind Parmar.

Rusedski, who won this title in 1997, faces serious competition if he progresses from No1 seed Andy Roddick. The American is due to play Sweden's Jonas Bjorkman tomorrow.

Rusedski said: "I'm healthy and fit and looking forward to this week in Nottingham. I think everything is firing well. It's just a little bit of sharpness here and there on the big points.

"I'm happy to be back here, I've got very fond memories of this tournament. I've won it before and had two semi-finals, so I always seem to do well."

Meanwhile, Martina Navratilova, former world No1 and nine-times Wimbledon champion, and Russia's Anna Kournikova, 21, play doubles matches on the first day of the Britannic Asset Management championships at Eastbourne today.

Navratilova has been given a wild card into the singles at the age of 45 to a tournament she won 10 times. Kournikova has yet to win a singles title or to repeat her first Wimbledon in 1997 when she reached the semi-finals.

Former French Open champion Mary Pierce is the leading seed and faces a first round match against Ai Sugiyama of Japan.
