Rusedski off to bad start

14 April 2012

Greg Rusedski today lost his first match on the ATP tour since being cleared of a doping offence.

The British No2 was beaten 6-2, 7-6 by Jurgen Melzer in his first-round match at the Raiffeisen Grand Prix in Austria.

Home favourite Melzer stormed the first set but was made to work in the second set before winning a tie-break 7-1.

Rusedski tested positive for the anabolic steroid nandrolone last summer, but was cleared in March of wilfully using an illegal substance.

Andre Agassi is also out of the Austrian tournament after suffering a shock 6-2, 7-6 defeat to 339th-ranked Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia.
