Scotland have suffered another World Cup injury blow with lively scrum-half Ali Price ruled out of the tournament with a foot injury.

Price will return to Scotland and be replaced by Henry Pyrgos, his Glasgow team-mate.

Pyrgos has not played for Scotland since 2017.

Price joins the rampaging flanker Hamish Watson in being ruled out of the tournament after just one game.

"Both Ali and Hamish (Watson) had invested a lot of effort into being in their best physical shape for the World Cup and it’s a shame that they’ve only been involved in one game,” said coach Gregor Townsend.

“However we have a lot of belief in our wider group and the two new players [Magnus Bradbury and Pyrgos] who have been given this opportunity.”

Having been well beaten by Ireland, Scotland are next in action against Samoa in Kobe on Monday.
