South Africa second row Eben Etzebeth is being lined up for a lucrative short-term deal with Saracens as replacement for Alistair Hargreaves.

Hargreaves, 30, the Saracens club captain, retired from the game last week after a series of concussions over the past two years.

With Maro Itoje and George Kruis expected to be with England for the Six Nations, Sarries will be short of cover in the back of the scrum and lineout.

Etzebeth, who has 53 Springbok caps, will stay in London after the autumn internationals if South Africa and his club, the Stormers, approve the deal.
