Mark McCall is hoping the return of England internationals Billy Vunipola and Maro Itoje against Wasps on Sunday will end the inconsistent form that has dogged Saracens’ season.

Sarries need to win their final European Champions Cup pool matches against Ospreys and Northampton to keep alive their hopes of making the knockout stages and ended their seven-game losing run in all competitions with Premiership wins over Leicester and Worcester over Christmas.

The return of Vunipola and Itoje, who will play with two plates in his broken jaw, will be a massive boost for director of rugby McCall. Both players are currently taking part in the three-day England training camp in Brighton.

Players have previously been seriously injured in these camps but McCall is confident that England head coach Eddie Jones will ensure his players return ready for action.

Itoje suffered a double break to his jaw on December 3, while Vunipola will return following a serious knee injury. McCall said: “Maro and Billy are in contention for the Wasps game and we are going to have to make some selection decisions we haven’t had to make at other times in the season.”

Uncapped London Irish wing Joe Cokanasiga has also been called up for the England training camp.
