Marland Yarde will leave Harlequins to join Sale but the London club are not planning to bring in a short‑term, high‑profile replacement this season.

All Blacks wing Julian Savea has dismissed talk of a temporary deal with Quins, who selected Charlie Walker in the No14 jersey for the 41‑35 win over Worcester on Saturday.

Quins believe they have enough back-line cover to ensure Yarde’s loss will not severely affect their attacking power. Standard Sport understands a transfer fee will not be involved because Yarde’s contract was up at the end of this season.

Yarde is understood to have missed training on a number of occasions and while John Kingston, the Quins director of rugby, is adamant he continues to have a positive personal relationship with the 13-cap back, it is time for him to move on after three years at the Twickenham Stoop.

Kingston said: “My relationship with Marland is really strong and he is a very good rugby player. However, I have to make decisions for the better good of Harlequins.

“If I think there is something stopping a strong environment, I will jump quickly to sort out and make that decision.”
