Eddie Jones’ England squad: Can any of the big names come in from the cold?

Eddie Jones did not spare anyone’s feelings when he drew up the guest list for his proposed Six Nations party, with some well-known players not invited.

The Australian was determined to launch a new era after Stuart Lancaster’s failed regime and the red pen went quickly to work on the squad that had failed to get England out of their World Cup pool.

Brad Barritt, Tom Youngs and Tom Wood were among those cut as Jones opted to give youth its head.

And while Lancaster had chosen not to gamble with Maro Itoje, releasing him at the first opportunity from the World Cup squad, the former Australia and Japan coach immediately hit the headlines with his choice of the 21-year-old Saracens forward.

The response from Itoje has been nothing short of remarkable and now the big question is whether Itoje will continue his rapid development and make the Lions tour to New Zealand next year in a squad which could feature a number of the players Jones has backed.
