Delon Armitage ready for 'biggest match of my career'

10 April 2012

Delon Armitage, whose World Cup dream seemed doomed after an eight-week ban, has been asked to help power England into the quarter-finals.

The London Irish full-back's return is one of three changes to Martin Johnson's line-up for the final pool game with Scotland in Auckland on Saturday.

Armitage has shed his bad-boy image during the campaign and has been chosen on the wing ahead of Mark Cueto, who scored a hat-trick of tries in the 67-3 win over Romania last weekend.

Prop Matt Stevens has recovered from an ankle injury to replace Alex Corbisiero and Courtney Lawes returns to the second row after a two-game ban with Tom Palmer dropping to the bench.

The changes will be officially announced by team manager Martin Johnson tomorrow.

Armitage's England career stalled last season when he was banned for pushing a doping official and punching Northampton's Stephen Myler but he played in the first two games of this campaign.

Scotland must win by eight points to deny England a quarter-final place and Armitage, who will play left wing, said: "This is going to be massive - the biggest of my career."

Armitage will be a secondary No15 when Scotland launch an aerial bombardment in predicted wet and windy conditions.
