Rough waters halts Brits medal charge

Great Britain was ruling the waves going into the sixth day of the Olympic sailing with crews leading three of the nine fleet competitions.

Although held up by the weather today it is the Yngling keelboat of Shirley Robertson, Sarah Webb and Sarah Ayton that could triumph first. The mistral and laser classes were also postponed earlier today.

But Ben Ainslie was in action in the Finn class. He has an eightpoint lead despite an earlier disqualification.

In the 470 class, the gap between the boat of Nick Rogers and Joe Glanfield and their American rivals was just six points.

Meanwhile, at the Olympic rowing regatta in Schinias, the lightweight double sculls boat of Helen Casey and Tracy Langlands missed out on the final after finishing fifth in the semi-final. There were three crews in 'B' final action today with the men's pair of Rick Dunn and Toby Garbett pipping Italy on the line to win by just four hundredths of a second in a time of 6:22.04.

The men's double scull led from the halfway point through to the finish to hold off the German crew by two-tenths of a second, in 6:14.40.

Ian Lawson, in the single sculls, finished fourth in a time of 6:57.63.
