Richard Hughes plans double delivery

Richard Hughes is looking ahead to one of the biggest weeks in his life and is hopeful of bagging another Classic at the end of it.

The top Flat jockey's wife Lizzie, daughter of trainer Richard Hannon, is expecting the couple's second child tomorrow.

And Hughes will then jet off to Mumbai to team-up with all-conquering Jacqueline in Sunday's Indian Derby.

The Irishman has already won three of the four Indian Classics aboard the Pesi Shroff-trained filly.

Hughes said: "There's a lot going on. It's a big week but Lizzie seems to be handling it well. She'll be fine.

"We had our first child, Harvey, through IVF, but this time it has happened naturally and we're thrilled."

Hughes is no stranger to big-race success in India. Having partnered Jacqueline to victory in the Indian 2,000 Guineas in December, he followed up in style in the Indian Oaks eight days ago.

The jockey has ridden winners in all of the Indian Classics barring their St Leger and says the pressure is on this time.

He added: "If she's in the same form she was last time, she'd have a great chance but it won't be easy. However, I'm hopeful she'll do it again."

Though jump racing was frozen off today in Britain, prospects look brighter tomorrow.

Officials at Folkestone are optimistic about their chances of racing, despite calling a precautionary 7.30am inspection.

With temperatures set to rise, Taunton are also confident that their meeting will get the green light.
