Reds wait on Nunez scan

14 April 2012

Liverpool were today waiting on a scan on new midfielder Antonio Nunez.

They fear their new signing from Real Madrid, who came as part of the Michel Owen deal, sustained knee ligament damage after a collision in training yesterday.

Liverpool, who play Manchester City on Saturday, hope to complete the signing of Real Sociedad midfielder Xabi Alonso by the weekend.

New manager Rafael Benitez said: "We hope to finish our conversations about signing Alonso this week. I'm not sure when the transfer will be completed. It is near, we hope before the weekend, but I'm not sure he will be able to play on Saturday."
