Rain frustrates England

SWALEC Stadium
12 April 2012

Morning showers delayed the start of play again on day four of the first Test npower Test between England and Sri Lanka.

Poor weather at Cardiff's SWALEC Stadium now looks certain to force a draw, with the players so far only able to start on time on day two.

There were only 48 overs possible on the first day and 20 more were lost yesterday, meaning neither side should be able to force a result with further rain certain.

The delay was a frustration for England's not out centurions Alastair Cook and Jonathan Trott.

When play resumes Cook will start with 129 not out and Trott with 125no.

Unless Sri Lanka can improve on their uninspired showing in the field on Saturday, both men will be eyeing double hundreds.

Umpires Aleem Dar and Billy Doctrove will inspect the pitch when the rain stops in the Welsh capital.
