Price increase: Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate has been told that French under-21 midfielder Didier Digard will cost him at least £4.5million.

The 21-year-old midfielder has spent the week at Middlesbrough's training ground and has agreed terms to move to England.

However Middlesbrough's offer of around £3.8 million has not matched PSG's valuation of the player.

Digard has admitted the inability of the two sides to so far reach agreement  has put his future in doubt.

He said: "I am staying with a friend but I have not passed any medical. I do not know yet if I will go to Middlesbrough. We will see."

Newcastle and Portsmouth remain keen on the France Under-21 international but  Middlesbrough are the only club to have matched his personal demands.
